The International Organisation for Migration has donated ICT equipment to the Edo State Migration Agency and five giant solar inverters to Benin Technical College.

The organisation, on Thursday, also donated two lawnmowers and ceiling fans to the college while a case management database systems and child care centre were gifted to the agency.

The Chief of Mission, IOM, Paola Pace, said the gesture was to enhance the migration agency and the college capacity to support returned migrants and curb human trafficking.

Ms Pace said the donations and unveiling of the child care centre represented a significant milestone geared towards providing hope and dignity to returned migrants

She noted that the ICT equipment would empower returnees and enable them acquire valuable digital skills necessary for reintegration and economic independence in today’s technology-driven world.

She stated that the donation aligned perfectly with IOM’s shared vision of building a skilled, self-reliant, and thriving community of returned migrants.

She noted, “The child care centre is yet another testament to IOM’s dedication to supporting holistic reintegration. By providing a safe and nurturing environment for children, we give their parents the peace of mind they need to focus on rebuilding their lives.’’

In his remarks, the Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, thanked IOM for the donations.

Mr Osagie, represented by Aikefe Aigbavboa, expressed appreciation to stakeholders working tirelessly to tackle migration issues in the state.

According to Mr Osagie, the partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing the challenges of migration and reintegration.

He said, “Together, let us continue to create opportunities and build a society where no one is left behind.’’

Also, the Benin Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Aganran Ganiu Alao stated that the agency had tackling human trafficking and irregular migration for the past 22 years.

He commended IOM for being a dependable and supportive partner to state and non-state actors involved in the fight against human trafficking and irregular migration.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to returned migrants who completed various skills acquisition training at the Edo Jobs centre in Benin City and Auchi.
