The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the federal government to focus on reforming the petroleum industry to fast-track the nation’s economic growth.

The national publicity secretary of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, made the call on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to him, reforming the petroleum industry would reduce dependence on imported petroleum products and stimulate economic activity nationwide.

Mr Ukadike also called for urgent intervention in the nation’s pipeline network.

He further stressed that existing petroleum pipelines should be refurbished to ensure efficient transportation of petroleum products and support economic activity.

Mr Ukadike said that strengthening the petroleum sector aligns with the economic objectives of the current administration and the expectations of Nigerians seeking sustainable economic growth.

He urged the President Bola Tinubu administration to declare a state of emergency on the rehabilitation of state-owned refineries.

Mr Ukadike said the federal government should also prioritise repairing facilities in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna to ensure they are fully operational and contribute significantly to domestic fuel supply.

While reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey, he called on Nigerians to recommit themselves to national development.

Mr Ukadike said that while Nigeria had benefited from democratic governance, there was an urgent need to address challenges in the oil and gas sector to support economic growth.

“We remain hopeful that renewed commitment, policies, and strategic investments will help unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry for the benefit of all citizens,” he said.
