Iran’s judiciary responded on Tuesday to reports of the arrest of security officers following the deadly attack on Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, saying the speculation is false.

Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said during a news conference that reports by Western news outlets and social media regarding this were false.

He mentioned that while there had been intensive investigations following the attack, there had been no arrests, the ISNA news agency reported.

The New York Times and the British Telegraph had previously reported on the arrests, citing Iranian officials.

Social media accounts published in Farsi had also speculated about a security breach and cooperation between Iranian agents and the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

The Iranian parliament’s security commission categorically rejected the allegations.

An “infiltration” of Iran’s security apparatus by Mossad did not occur, it said.

Last week, Haniyeh, the Qatar-based leader of the Palestinian militant Islamist Hamas group, was killed in Tehran during a visit to the country.

Hamas and Iran blamed Israel for the attack and vowed retaliation. Israel has not yet commented on Haniyeh’s death.
