Iran launches ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation

Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel on Friday evening in retaliation for Israel’s earlier attack on its nuclear and military complex the same day.
Iran said Friday evening local time that it had fired “hundreds of various ballistic missiles” toward Israel in what it called the “beginning” of its “crushing response.”
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported: “Moments ago, with the launch of hundreds of various ballistic missiles toward the occupied territories, the operation of decisive response to the savage attack of the Zionist regime has begun.”
Israel Defense Forces spokesperson, Brig.-Gen. Effie Defrin, confirmed that Iran launched fewer than 100 missiles at Israel. Over 50 people were reportedly injured in the attack.
The missile strike came on the same day Israel struck Iran’s nuclear and military complex, killing the country’s top three military officials and six nuclear scientists.
General Hossein Salami, the commander-in-chief of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was caught in the attacks that rocked Iran in the early hours of Friday.
Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the country’s highest-ranking military officer; Iran’s former national security chief, Ali Shamkhani; and six nuclear scientists were also killed in the attacks.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, confirmed the deaths of the top military officials in a statement and threatened “severe punishment” against Israel.
