A senior Iranian security official said on Tuesday, the path for nuclear negotiations with the United States is not closed.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, made the remarks in a post on social media platform X while elaborating on Tehran’s conditions for talks with Washington.

Mr Larijani added that Iran seeks “rational” negotiations, stressing that “by raising unrealisable issues, such as missile restrictions, they (the United States) set a path which negates any talks.”

Iran and the United States were scheduled to hold the sixth round of their indirect nuclear negotiations on June 15 in Oman.

The talks were suspended after Israel launched major airstrikes on June 13 targeting several Iranian sites, including nuclear and military facilities.

U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites followed on June 22.

On Aug. 28, U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said Washington is still seeking direct talks with Iran on ending its nuclear program.

He said this following the move by France, Britain, and Germany, collectively known as the E3, to trigger the “snapback” mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions on Tehran.
