Iran’s embassy in Nigeria has condemned military attacks on Iran, citing concerns over international law and sovereignty.

In a statement on Tuesday, the embassy said the strikes occurred amid ongoing diplomatic engagements between Iran and the United States.

It said the timing “raises serious questions about commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes”.

The embassy stated that the strikes affected Iranian territory and civilian infrastructure, describing them as inconsistent with Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter.

It noted that the provision prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.

According to the statement, information available indicated that civilian locations were impacted, including a school in Minab, resulting in casualties.

The embassy said the operation also had implications for Iran’s political and security leadership, calling it “a serious matter affecting national sovereignty”.

It noted that the incidents were reported during Ramadan and ahead of Nowruz, periods cited as having cultural and humanitarian significance.

“Such actions during sacred and culturally important periods further heighten concern,” the statement said.

From a legal perspective, the embassy maintained that the military strikes lacked justification under international law and could undermine the global legal order.

It reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and peaceful engagement, while noting that international law recognises the right to self-defence.

The embassy urged the international community to uphold principles of law, justice and accountability, warning that failure could threaten regional stability and international peace.
