Iron bender jailed for stealing generator, rod

A Senior Magistrate’s court in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has sentenced a 19-year-old iron bender, Asibo Hassan, to eight months imprisonment for stealing a generator and iron rod valued at N300,000.
The police charged the convict who resides at the back of Abattoir, Gwagwalada Abuja with criminal trespass and theft.
The Senior Magistrate, Nuhu Tukur, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy.
Mr Tukur in his ruling sentenced the convict to four months imprisonment for the offence of criminal trespass without an option of fine, and four months for the offence of theft without an option of fine.
He said that the sentence would run concurrently.
Mr Tukur, however, warned him to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.
Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Dabo Yakubu told the court that the complainant, Hassan Owudah reported the matter at Gwagwalada police station on October 16.
Mr Yakubu said on the same day the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house through the fence with the intention to steal.
He said that the convict was caught in the house and during police investigation, he confessed to have conspired with two others, Diamond and Kwaya both now at large.
The prosecutor said they stole a Honda generator valued at N150 000, aluminium valued at N100 000, and iron rod valued at N50 000, which he sold to an unknown scavenger.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 342 and 287 of the Penal Code.
