Governor Caleb Mutfwang has blamed people amplifying a series of bloody attacks carried out by bandits and terrorists in the state for destroying the state.

A viral video of Mr Mutfwang speaking at an event emerged on social media on Tuesday. In the video, he blamed those who posted attacks on social media in a hurry to destroy and demarket the state before the world.

“We have never suggested anywhere that any innocent person should be swept under the carpet. We keep accurate data of all the attacks. But many of you who are in a hurry to put it on social media are destroying the state,” Mr Mutfwang said.

Mr Mutfwang accused people of demarketing the state before the entire world by circulating reports of attacks on the state’s social media.

“There is a deliberate plan to demarket Plateau state. But let me reassure Nigerians and the world that Plateau state remains the home of peace and tourism,” Mr Mutfwang said. “Sometimes you put on social media what you heard as a rumour. You don’t know the lives you put in danger with what you post on social media. We need to be careful. I appeal to our media people. But our media people need to be more responsible.”

A recent midnight attack on the Ngbra-Zongo village of Bassa LGA in Plateau left 12 people killed.

On Palm Sunday, an attack in Anguwan Rukuba left about 30 people dead.
