Over 40 people were killed on Sunday after Islamic State-backed Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters raided a Catholic Church in Komanda, Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Radio Okapi, a UN-sponsored station in DRC, reported that over 43 people were killed during a vigil by the ADF fighters.

“An attack attributed to the Ugandan rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) left 43 dead in Komanda, Ituri province,” the radio reported.

It added, “Among the victims, about 20 were stabbed to death during a prayer vigil at a Catholic church on the night of Saturday to Sunday, July 27.”

The attack saw houses torched and shops looted at Komanda.

The DRC army confirmed the incident but reported 10 deaths.
