ISPON seeks stronger collaboration with NSCDC on safety enforcement

The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, on Wednesday, sought a strategic partnership with the Kogi command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enforce safety standards across the state.
The state chairman of ISPON, Friday Sani, sought the partnership during a courtesy visit to the Kogi NSCDC commandant, Ebenezer Aletan, in Lokoja.
Mr Sani noted that many workplace and environmental hazards resulting in loss of lives and property could be prevented through strict adherence to established safety protocols.
According to him, the NSCDC remains the security agency whose mandate closely aligns with the institute’s objectives, making collaboration between both organisations crucial.
He urged the corps to intensify personnel training and retraining in safety management, noting that many accidents and fatalities were avoidable through greater awareness and compliance with safety regulations.
Mr Sani also commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for supporting safety initiatives and promoting compliance with safety standards in the state.
Responding, Mr Aletan described safety as the foundation of trust, stability and effective risk management, stressing that prevention remained the most effective approach to safeguarding lives and critical infrastructure.
He noted that the NSCDC’s mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure aligned with ISPON’s objectives and assured the institute of the command’s readiness to collaborate in promoting safety compliance.
The commandant also emphasised the need for sustained public enlightenment on safety issues and pledged the corps’ support toward strengthening safety culture and reducing avoidable accidents in the state.
