Israel marks Hamas October 7 attack memorial amid ceasefire talks

In remembrance of those killed in the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack, Israelis gathered to mourn and mark the second year of the violence.
Footage of families and friends, many dressed in black T-shirts displaying photos of their loved ones killed in the attack, circulated on social media on Tuesday.
The attack that saw Hamas kill 1,200 and take more than 250 others hostage sparked a war between Israel and Palestine in the past two years.
Since the October 7 attack, Israeli soldiers have gone after Hamas in Gaza, killing about four of its leaders and over 67,000 people, including children and women.
Through previous intermittent ceasefire talks, some of the hostages have been released. However, Hamas still holds 48 hostages. 20 of them are believed to be alive.
