Israel says terrorist shot dead after opening fire at military post

The Israeli military early on Tuesday said an attacker was shot dead after firing at soldiers at a checkpoint near the village of Tayasir in the northern West Bank.
“Following the initial report, a terrorist fired at soldiers at a military post in the area of Tayasir. The soldiers eliminated the terrorist during exchanges of fire,’’ the military said on Telegram.
According to Israeli media reports, seven people were injured in the incident.
Two of them were in critical condition, the Times of Israel reported citing first responders.
The Israeli army had stepped up operations against militants in the northern West Bank since January.
Dozens of Palestinians have been killed in the process, including minors.
Israel took over the West Bank and East Jerusalem following the Six-Day War in 1967.
Today, around 700,000 Israeli settlers live there among three million Palestinians.
The Palestinians claimed that the territories were a state of their own, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
