IWD: Ekiti reaffirms commitment to empowering women through sports

The Technical Advisor on Sports Development to the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olusola Osetoba, has assured women and girls that the state government would continue to empower them through sports.
Ms Osetoba gave the assurance on Sunday while commemorating the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) in Ado-Ekiti.
She explained that the present administration had given priority to promoting women’s participation and empowerment in sports since he assumed office.
The technical advisor noted that her appointment to the position was part of the governor’s broader effort to give women greater opportunities to contribute their quotas to governance and sports development.
She also highlighted that several women have been entrusted with key positions across different sectors in the state as part of the administration’s inclusive governance approach.
Ms Osetoba said, “I want to celebrate Ekiti women and girls to commemorate the 2026 IWD. The administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji is passionate about the development of women and girls in sports and politics.
“I am a living testimony because he appointed me as his Technical Advisor on Sports Development and also give both moral and financial support to the state owned female football team, Ekiti Queens FC.”
Ms Osetoba assured female athletes in Ekiti State of sustained government support and programmes aimed at strengthening their growth and participation in sports.
She added that the government’s efforts align with the theme of the 2026 IWD, “Rights, Justice and Action for All Women and Girls.”
