IWD: Fubara reaffirms commitment to women empowerment

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality.

Mr Fubara made the remark in a goodwill message to Rivers  women in commemoration of 2026 International Women’s Day celebration in Port Harcourt, on Monday.

He said that their strength, resilience and contributions to the development of the state, Nigeria and the global community could not be overemphasised.

The governor said that women ‘’play a pivotal role in shaping the society’’ and commended their dedication in communities, workplaces and homes.

“As governor, I am proud to stand in solidarity with our women, recognising their pivotal role in shaping our society.

“Your courage and determination continue to drive progress and prosperity,” he said.

Mr Fubara called for renewed commitment towards creating opportunities that would enable women to thrive and realise their full potential.

He noted that his administration had taken steps to promote gender inclusion which included appointment of women to key leadership positions in government.

Mr Fubara also highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s economic capacity, including the Women Economic Empowerment Programme which provided N50,000 grants to 1,000 women.

He said that his wife, Valerie Fubara, had also supported women farmers through the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme, under which N10 million was presented to 20 women farmers.

He added that the state government had partnered with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to create jobs and empower women and youths across the state.
