Jailbreak: Two die in attack on Osun prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has confirmed that two inmates lost their lives at Kosere Custodial Centre, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday, during an attempted jailbreak.
The attempted jailbreak happened while inmates were observing their routine freetime around the prison facility.
State Controller Amoran Olanrewaju disclosed this to reporters at the Ile-Ife facility on Wednesday.
Mr Olanrewaju said the inmates suddenly turned on warders and some attempted to flee.
He noted that the cause of the inmates’ revolt and attempted jailbreak is yet to be known but explained that security men repelled them from fleeing.
Four inmates were injured in the process and were immediately taken to the hospital while two were confirmed dead, the controller said.
Mr Olanrewaju stated that the remaining two had been responding to treatment at the undisclosed hospital since Tuesday.
He added that normalcy had returned to the centre and all measures had been put in place to maintain peaceful coexistence within the environment.
The controller commended the effort of the Controller General and security men for adopting measures at minimising loss of lives and property in correctional centres.
