Canadian authorities have warned their citizens against falling victim to immigrants keen on relocating to the country through marriage scam.

The government of Canada, on its immigration websites, said, “Some people think marriage to a Canadian citizen will be their ticket to Canada.”

This immigration alert was circulated on X on Monday.

Warning its citizens, “Avoid scams and learn the rules for sponsoring a spouse,” the Canadian government said, “Think carefully before marrying someone and sponsoring them to come to Canada.”

The Canadian immigration website also highlighted some red flags its citizens should look out for to identify those targeting relocation to Canada through marriage scam.

It warned Canadian citizens to be wary of those they have just met, those wanting to get married quickly, those who have been married or in a common-law relationship many times before, and those who “haven’t shared much information about their background or family.”
