Japa: Nigerians running abroad are suffering, Tinubu claims

“Those who are running overseas are suffering. We have been there. Anybody who tells you that you cannot do something, pray you can do it.”

Bola Tinubu, the presidential standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress, has claimed that Nigerians fleeing abroad “are suffering.”

Mr Tinubu, while speaking in Enugu on Wednesday, noted that “we have been there,” apparently referring to his sojourn abroad before returning to Nigeria. He further noted that Nigerians who ran overseas for greener pastures ended up facing hardships.

The former Lagos governor had a brush with the law in the U.S., forfeiting hundreds of thousands of dollars over alleged drug dealing.

Mr Tinubu, former Lagos governor, has come under intense public ridicule and political onslaught for his role in an early 1990s drug trafficking case in Chicago.

“Those who are running overseas are suffering. We have been there. Anybody who tells you that you cannot do something, pray you can do it,” Mr Tinubu told Nigerians in Enugu.

According to the ruling APC presidential flag bearer, Nigeria is blessed that its citizens should not seek greener pastures abroad.

Mr Tinubu made the declaration while addressing a campaign rally. The presidential contestant said there was no country like Nigeria in Africa, adding that he should be supported to renew and rebuild the country.

According to the APC presidential flag bearer, Lagos as a state is better than many countries in the Western world.

He stressed that if the Igbos collaborated with his expected government, he would make the geopolitical zone a manufacturing hub.

Speaking particularly about Enugu, Mr Tinubu said he would make Enugu become an industrial hub greater than what it is today.

He described his campaign organisation as a moving train prepared to win the election, saying that any attempt to stand before the moving train would end in a fiasco.

“You cannot block the way of success. It is only the ignorant that will stand in the way of victory,” Mr Tinubu explained.

The APC presidential candidate added, “We are not looking for 25 per cent votes. We are working assiduously until Bola Ahmed Tinubu becomes the president of Nigeria.”
