The chief judge of Jigawa, Umar Sadiq, has reaffirmed that adequate manpower and a functional, efficient Magistrate and Shari’a Courts are the foundation of effective justice delivery.

Mr Sadiq made the remarks during a tour of inferior courts in Kazaure Emirate on Wednesday, said a statement.

The visit, the judge said, was aimed at promoting the efficiency of the judicial system at the grassroots level.

The team conducted on-the-spot assessments at the magistrates’ courts in Kazaure and Roni, as well as the Shari’a courts in Kazaure, Roni, Giwa, Amaryawa, and Karkarna.

Mr Sadiq noted that the visit was also aimed at identifying the challenges hindering optimal performance, with a view to finding lasting solutions.

“We are here to see things for ourselves. The inferior courts are where the majority of our citizens first encounter the judiciary.

“It is imperative that we ensure these courts are not only structurally sound, but also staffed by well-trained personnel capable of delivering speedy and fair judgments,” Mr Sadiq explained.

Also speaking, the state grand kadi, Mohammad Sani-Salihu, reiterated the commitment of the Shari’a Court of Appeal to ensure that Islamic law is administered efficiently and called on the staff to shun all forms of corruption and bribery in the discharge of their official assignment.

The visit is one of several planned tours across the state’s three senatorial districts, adding that findings from the inspections are expected to form the basis of a comprehensive report that will guide future policy decisions, budget allocations, and reforms within the state judiciary.
