The Jigawa state government has set up a technical committee to review land, housing and urban development policies to address the housing deficit and improve land administration.

Garba Abdullahi, commissioner for lands, housing, urban planning and regional development, said this in a statement by Abdullahi Yakubu, the spokesman of the ministry, on Monday in Dutse.

He said the state executive council (SEC) approved and mandated the committee to review existing policies to address challenges associated with land allocation, housing and urban development, illegal demarcation, double allocation, as well as farmers’/herders’ conflict.

Mr Abdullahi said the committee would identify structures not in conformity with urban development policies and policy formulation to ensure alignment with existing national frameworks, laws and development strategies and organise stakeholders’ engagement to facilitate consultation, dialogues and technical contributions to provide subject matter input and sector-specific recommendations to strengthen the policies.

“The committee is to ensure that the resulting policy is not only technically sound and inclusive but also fully aligns with realities, priorities, strategies and strategic aspirations as outlined in Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda,” he said.

The statement said the committee, expected to submit its report within six weeks, would be headed by Garba Abdullahi, while Nura Ibrahim, commissioner for environment, would serve as co-chair.
