Jigawa windstorm killed six, injured 65: SEMA

The state’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the calamity on wednesday in Dutse through its executive secretary Yusuf Sani.

No fewer than six persons were killed in a windstorm which also left 65 injured in the Kafinhausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The state’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA)  confirmed the calamity on wednesday in Dutse through its executive secretary Yusuf Sani.

Mr Sanj said that the  windstorm on Tuesday wreaked havoc on the affected community and destroyed several houses, adding that the agency was conducting a damage assessment exercise to ascertain the extent of destruction caused by the disaster.

He said the displaced persons took refuge with their relatives in the area pending when a temporary shelter would be provided for them by the agency.

“Six persons lost their lives and 65 others who sustained injuries in the disaster had been hospitalised,” he said.

“Our personnel and that of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are in the area assessing the level of damage.”

Also commenting, the Information Officer in charge of the area, Muhammad Umar, said  the Chairman of the Council, Muhammad Saminu, had visited the victims on admission at General Hospital, Kafinhausa.
