The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says that strategies are currently in place to eradicate the use of illicit drugs, as intending couples will be required to run drug tests before tying the nuptial knot.

Buba Marwa, the chairman of NDLEA who spoke at the yearly Ogidi-Ela Day cultural celebration in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State said job seekers in both private firm and government parastatals will also be required to do the test.

“In the nearest future, anyone seeking employment into any government-industry or ministry, parastatal or agency; or seeking admission into a tertiary institution; or even getting married must first have to do drug test,” Mr Marwa said.

He maintained that if intending couples could run a series of tests before getting married, drug tests must also be carried out.

“If people are getting married don’t we ask them to do HIV test, Don’t you ask them to bring (result) of their Genotype Test?” He queried.

The agency boss further explained that the Buhari regime was bent on curbing the use of illicit drugs in the country, as the agency was making efforts to meet up with proposed programmes.

“Be reminded ladies and gentlemen, that, President Muhammadu Buhari is resolute in his new thrust to purge urge the country of illicit drugs,” he said, noting that “the NDLEA is doing everything possible to meet up with Presidential Mandate to clean up our streets, towns, and cities.

“That is why we have put in place various programmes with far-reaching effects, one of which is drug integrity test,” he added.
