A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered a 35-year-old unemployed man, Richard Amos, to be remanded in a correctional centre for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The police charged Mr Amos with illegal possession of firearms.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not accept Mr Amos’s plea, ordered that he be remanded to a correctional centre.

Mr Emmanuel directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

He adjourned the case until October 15 for legal advice.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that Mr Amos committed the offence on September 10 at Rigasa, Kaduna.

Mr Leo alleged that the suspect was arrested by the police surveillance team with a locally made pistol and one unexpended cartridge.

He stated that the defendant could not provide a satisfactory explanation for how he obtained the weapon.
