Plateau residents have come out in their numbers to celebrate the victory of the governor-elect in the state, Caleb Mutfwang.

The jubilant crowd gathered in their thousands at Langfield event center in Jos singing and dancing as they raised placards of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate and other victorious candidates, including that of Atiku Abubakar, who lost the presidential polls on February 25.

The crowd could be seen dancing and heard shouting the popular “Gida Gida,” cliche which loosely translates to “Home Home,” in Hausa language.

Speaking to Peoples Gazette, a prison warder who requested anonymity said, “enough is enough with the hardship in Plateau. I am here to celebrate the dawn of a new Plateau.”

Another resident of Jos, Joshua Agbede, told The Gazette that the victory is a dawn of a new era on the Plateau.

“I am simply excited,” he added.

“I am over joyed. The joy is indescribable. This joy is something else. I am so happy that the election was free and fair. The fact that Plateau people got what they want is something else. I am hoping that things change for good,” Grace Tokolman, another resident said as she joined in the cheer.

“I cannot explain how I feel. This victory means a lot for the Plateau. It is a breath of fresh air. When you’ve been in a land that has been as insecure as we have seen, you will understand what this victory means. The atmosphere that you see here today says everything,” Dabong Gyang, a political activist said.

Mr Mutfwang polled 525,299 to defeat his closest rival, Nentawe Yilwatda, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress,  who scored 481,300.

Mr Mutfwang, a former Chairman of Mangu local government area, won the highly contested elections amidst wide speculations and uncertainties.
