Journalist Tega Oghenedoro, popularly known as Fejiro Oliver, was on Tuesday granted bail by two different magistrates in Asaba, Delta State, on two fresh defamation charges.

The charges marked Charge No: CMA/529C/2025 and Charge No: CMA/530C/2025 were filed against him by the Delta government through the state Attorney General.

In the first suit, Mr Oliver is accused of defaming Senator Joel Onowakpo, representing the Delta South Senatorial District, by referring to him as a “blockhead senator” and “politically useless.”

In the second charge, the journalist is accused of defaming Stella Okotete, an executive director in the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM).

Peoples Gazette reported on Monday that the Delta State Government would prosecute the journalist on the two cases before one magistrate. However, the state’s attorney general separated Mr Onowakpor’s case from that of Mrs Okotete overnight.

The Delta State government arraigned Mr Oliver in Court 3 of the Asaba Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Nkechi Edith Anumadu for Mr Onowakpor’s case and later arraigned the journalist in Court 2 before Magistrate Patricia Onyeisi Okoh within the same court on Tuesday for Mrs Okotete’s case.

During the proceedings before the Magistrate’s Court in Asaba, Austin Nyekigbe, a member of the defence team, led by Inibehe Effiong, appeared for Mr Oliver, while the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), A. O. Orhorhoro, appeared with T. R. Anuhwin for the state.

Mr Oliver, who is the publisher of an online news platform—Secret Reporters—was previously arraigned by the Inspector General of Police before the Federal High Court in Asaba on charges of cyberstalking Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central in the Senate.

The journalist, who is currently remanded in the correctional facility, now faces four separate charges against four political elites in Delta State since his arrest on September 18, 2025.
