Judge says British-Nigerian child abductor mistakenly released from prison ‘had a nice dinner’ before fleeing UK
A Nigerian man, Ifedayo Adeyeye, convicted over the abduction of his five-year-old son has fled the United Kingdom after prison officials released him by mistake.
Mr Adeyeye, serving a 12-month sentence for contempt of court over the abduction of Laurys N’Djosse Adeyeye, was released from HMP Pentonville in Islington, north London, on April 21.
At a hearing on Monday, Justice Hayden said Mr Adeyeye “strolled about” the London area and “had a very nice dinner” and “quite a lot of drink” at a local pub.
The Telegraph UK reported that the convict suspected to have fled to Spain reportedly made transfer of pounds to others from a bank account before fleeing the UK.
“The public is entitled to expect far better than this” Justice Hayden said condemning the circumstances around the release of Mr Adeyeye and his escape from UK.
The judge lamented that the state had “failed,” and prison staff had shown an “alarming lack of urgency.”
