Cote D’Ivoire defeat Nigeria to clinch WAFU U-17 trophy

The Ivorian Under-17 team have defeated Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets to clinch the 2021 West African Football Union ( WAFU ) “B” Trophy.
The Tournament which took place in Lome, Togo, involved a number of West African Nations including Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Burkina Faso.
The Ivorian team took the lead in the 15th minute with Ivorian player, Sindou opening proceedings with a goal.
Konate doubled the lead in the 59th minute dawning the hopes of a comeback by the Eaglets.
Substitute Seydou Traore further added to Eaglets’ woes with the third goal at the 84th minute before Ahmed Abdullahi pulled one back for Nigeria to make it 3-1.
Ahmed Abdullahi completed his brace at the 90th minute but was not enough to save the day for the Golden Eaglets who lost with 3-2.
The finalists (Nigeria and Cote D’ivoire), have already been granted automatic tickets to the 2021 AFCON U-17 tournament scheduled for Morocco later this year.
The Golden Eaglets are the most successful African team in the history of the World U-17 tournament having won it five times.
The Brazilian team is the only team in the world to come close to that enviable success at the global stage of the competition.
The Eaglets’ Coach Fatai Amoo has now promised that more work will be done to improve the team in preparation for the AFCON U-17 tournament.
Golden Eaglets had beaten their counterpart from Burkina Faso in the Semifinals to reach the final of the tournament in Lome.
