Davido announces N250 million donation to orphanages across Nigeria
Nigerian music star Davido has donated the recently raised funds of over N250 million to orphanages across Nigeria.
Davido took to his Twitter page to announce the “donation of N250 million to orphanages”.
“I have always been passionate about giving back and helping people. In view of this, I am delighted to announce that all the funds received totaling N200 million will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche foundation,” he revealed.
He made an addition of N50 million to the fund raised. “I will be making a personal donation of N50 million, bringing the total amount to N250 million,” Davido added.
To celebrate his birthday, the artist jokingly took his account details to Twitter to ask fans and friends for money, generating over N200 million in less than 72 hours.
A committee has been set up to compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria, and also to oversee the disbursement of the funds accordingly.
The committee is expected to “determine the number of children and their needs at each orphanage and then divide the funds accordingly. The committee will also determine the portion of money that will be donated to Paroche Foundation,” the statement said.
Disbursement of funds by the committee is to be made “public”. According to the statement, “To maintain transparency, the committee will make public the names of beneficiary orphanages and how much each will receive.”
Davido said “a list of beneficiaries and verified account details will be submitted to Wema bank, who will then be instructed to credit each beneficiary account.”
Appreciating his fans, friends and colleagues who supported, Davido revealed he intends to make the donation a yearly activity to aid his goal of giving back to people in need.
