Gunmen attack Ondo town, kill six

This came barely three days after the massacre of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church at Iwa-luwa in Owo.

At least six persons have been killed as gunmen attacked the Sabo area of Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West local government area. 

This came barely three days after the massacre of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church at Iwa-luwa in Owo. 

The police said it was a robbery case.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the community in three motorcycles to carry out the dastardly act on Wednesday. 

“They came in a motorbike (sic) and started shooting sporadically at the people creating panic among those in the Sabo area. I saw at least six persons lying silently (sic) on the floor before I ran for cover. They were hit by the bullet,” a witness said. 

Funmilayo Odunlami, the spokesperson for the police in Ondo who confirmed the attack, described the incident as a “robbery case.”

“It was an attempted robbery. There was no attack on the Hausa community as currently being spread. When the robbers shoot at the people, the bullet hit a motor-boy and the driver. The bullet also hit a commercial motorcyclist who was transporting a rider,” said the police officer. “It was the motor boy who escaped with a bullet wound that reported the case, and he is now in the hospital. Although, we have about four casualties in the incident.”

Ms Odunlami further told Peoples Gazette that the police had launched an investigation into the attack and that a manhunt was launched for the attackers.
