Senate confirms Yakubu as INEC chair
The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National electoral Commission.
Mr. Mahmood was renominated for a second term by president Muhammadu Buhari in October. Mr. Mahmood handed over to Ahmed Mu’azu, who served as INEC acting chairman pending the confirmation of his appointment.
The senate during Tuesday plenary announced the confirmation of Mr. Yakubu as substantive chair of INEC in a tweet.
“The Nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu is CONFIRMED as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission,” the tweet reads.
By this Mr. Yakubu will serve another term as INEC chairman.
