Seyi Makinde records landslide win at polling unit

Mr Makinde said he was impressed with the voters’ turnout while denying the unfounded claims about the volatile security situation in the state.

Seyi Makinde, Oyo state governor and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 gubernatorial election has won his polling unit by a landslide margin as he hopes for re-election, Peoples Gazette reports.

The governor, who voted around 11:00 am at Ward 11, Unit 01, Abayomi area, Iwo Road, Ibadan North-East Local Council Area of the state garnered 174 votes to beat his closest rival, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress, has 28 out of the 211 total valid votes.

Speaking to journalists, shortly after casting his vote in the early hours of today, Mr Makinde said he was impressed with the voters’ turnout while denying the unfounded claims about the volatile security situation in the state.

He said: “…You, yourself can see that people are out here exercising their civic rights, and from the security aspect, I think it has been good so far. They are saying there have been security challenges, but as you can see, there are no security challenges.”
