K-pop boy band BTS’ J-Hope begins months-long mandatory military service
Jung Ho-seok, better known as J-Hope, one of the members of the famous South Korean K-pop boy band BTS, on Tuesday began his months-long mandatory military service in the Asian nation’s armed forces.
“I’ll be back later,” the 29-year-old singer posted on fan platform Weverse on Monday, alongside a picture of his shaved head as he became the second member of the band to do so following the enlistment of the oldest member of the group Kim ‘Jin’ Seok-jin in December.
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that J-Hope was carried inside a van as he made his way into military induction ceremony venue in the city of Wonju which is not far from the South Korea’s capital city of Seoul.
Enlistment into military is mandatory for all able-bodied South Korean between the ages of 18 and 28 for a 18 to 21 months compulsory service – with all members of the Grammy-nominated band planning to compete military duty by 2025.
The idea of the band members serving in the military has sent their fans across the globe into meltdown. Even some politicians in South Korea have floated the idea of granting them exemption from the mandatory military service in order for them to carry on with their music career.
