Kaduna assembly passes bill to establish state electricity regulatory commission

The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the bill for the establishment of the Kaduna State Electricity Regulatory Commission and a commercial and technical framework for the state’s electricity market.
Presided by the speaker, Dahiru Liman, the bill was passed after the third reading, following the adoption of a report presented by the chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Works, Infrastructure and Judiciary, Muhammad Nasiru.
According to the report, the passed bill will help facilitate green technology and sustainable supply of electricity in the state as well as ensure safe, reliable and efficient interconnection of the state electricity market subject to federal regulations.
Similarly, a bill for a law to repeal the tax codification and consolidation law, No. 16 of 2020, scaled second reading and was referred to the appropriate committee for in-depth study.
The bill, if passed, would provide for assessment, collection of and accounting for revenue accruing to the state and local governments.
It would also provide a uniform procedure for a consistent and efficient administration of tax laws to facilitate tax compliance by taxpayers and optimise tax revenue.
The bill would also establish the Kaduna State Revenue Service as an agency for tax administration in the state while prescribing the powers and functions of the services and for other matters connected.
