Kaduna court convicts man for stealing goat

A magistrates’ court in Kaduna on Wednesday sentenced Gidado Hamza, a 38-year-old unemployed man, to 100 hours of community service for stealing a goat.
The police charged Mr Hamza with a one-count of stealing.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, gave the sentence after Mr Hamza pleaded guilty to the charge.
Mr Emmanuel, who did not give the convict an option of a fine, said the community service would serve as a deterrent to others who have intentions of committing similar crimes.
He warned the convict to desist from crimes and maintain good behaviour, adding that the court would not be lenient next time.
The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that the convict committed the offence on April 30, at Kawo.
Mr Leo said that the convict stole a goat valued at N50,000 at Rigasa, belonging to Musa Ahmed.
The prosecutor added that the convict was caught trying to kill the goat in an uncompleted building and was handed over to the police with the stolen goat.
