The Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Kaduna State Chapter, Nuhu Aminu, has called for early distribution of farm inputs for the 2024 wet season farming in the state.

Mr Aminu made the call while speaking at the sidelines of a livestock, farm produce and food exhibition show on Sunday in Zaria.

The show is part of the first Zazzau National Education, Trade and Investment summit, organised by Zazzau Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture in collaboration with AFAN.

Mr Aminu said that early distribution of inputs for the 2024 wet season farming would enable the farmers to cultivate early and earn good harvests.

He said that the campaign for food security and wealth creation should be backed with actions by policy makers and stakeholders.

”Early distribution of inputs to farmers will support the efforts of peasant farmers to achieve food security and wealth creation. We are already running late, this is May, and some farmers in the state have started planting. So there is a need to quickly distribute inputs,” he said.

Mr Aminu expressed AFAN’s gratitude with the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro Pocket (NAGS–AP) initiative.

“This initiative was deployed during the last dry season wheat and rice farming in the state. It was very helpful. We urge the government to upscale this initiative so that farmers can benefit from it during the ongoing wet season farming,” he said.

Also speaking, the Vice President, Association of International Trade and Investment Promoters of Nigeria, Prof. Andu Bambale, said the exhibition was to showcase farm produce grown in the Zazzau Emirate.

He further said that the event was to foster collaborations among key stakeholders for enhanced food production, job creation and food security.

The 10-day Zazzau summit which commenced on May 3, was declared open by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
