Kaduna Fire Service recorded 20 outbreaks, one death in August: Official

The director of the Kaduna State Fire Service, Paul Aboi, says one person died in 20 fire outbreaks recorded in the state in August.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Mr Aboi said one person also sustained injuries while another was rescued unhurt.
He said the fire outbreaks were recorded in Kaduna, Zaria, and Kafanchan, and “Properties worth N171,000 were saved from destruction” and another worth “N30,000 were destroyed.”
The director noted a reduction in fire outbreaks in the state and said public enlightenment and heavy rains in August contributed to the reduction.
He said 70 per cent of fire incidents in the state resulted from carelessness on the part of residents, adding that most of the incidents were caused by electrical faults.
Mr Aboi urged the state government to ensure that all local government areas were equipped with fire fighting facilities and appealed to residents to ensure they had fire extinguishers in their homes.
