The Kaduna state government has vowed justice for the teenager killed by troops of the Nigerian Army who were mobilised to quell tension in the Samaru area of Sabon Gari, Zaria.

The Kaduna state governor made this declaration during a visit by a high-powered delegation on Thursday.

Although the governor was absent during the visit, he shared details via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Today, I dispatched a high-powered delegation made up of top government officials and heads of security agencies to condole with the family of the teenager, Ismail Muhammad, who was killed when troops of the Nigerian Army mobilised to disperse a mob in the Samaru area of Sabon Gari LG during the last protest,” the governor disclosed.

He added that he spoke to the father of the deceased during the visit led by Samuel Aruwan, who headed the delegation.

“The team was led by the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan. While the team was with the family, I spoke on the phone with the father of the deceased, Muhammad Hussaini, and expressed our deepest condolences,” he said.

“I told him that we are deeply pained by the unfortunate incident and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is served. A full and thorough investigation will be conducted, and the culprit will be brought to book,” he added, promising to maintain close contact with the family.

The late 16-year-old Isma’il Muhammad was reportedly shot inside his father’s house on Tuesday while troops were enforcing the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state following the violent outcome of the protest that left properties destroyed.

The director of army public relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the killing, adding that the soldier responsible has been arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation, according to a report by Channels Television.
