Kaduna: Shari’a Court jails nursing mother for breach of trust
A Shari’a Court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna state on Tuesday sentenced a nursing mother, Fatima Abubakar, to one month imprisonment for breach of trust.
The judge, Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, sentenced her following a guilty plea she entered for breach of trust.
Mr Abubakar-Tureta, however, gave her an option to pay a fine of N3,000.
He also ordered her to refund N16,340 to Fatima Rabiu, the nominal complainant.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Sambo Maigari, told the court that the nominal complainant gave the convict goods worth N16,340 in December 2021 to sell for her and remit the money.
He stated that all attempts made by the complainant to recover her goods failed.
Mr Maigari said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 157 of the Shari’a Criminal Procedure Code (SCPC).
He prayed the court to compel the convict to pay the money and punish her for her crime.
