The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has announced its readiness to conduct a by-election to fill two vacant councillorship positions on December 13.

The commission’s chairman, Dani Lawal-Malumfashi, said in a statement on Monday that the by-election became necessary following the death of two serving councillors: one representing Kofar Mazugal Ward in Dala Local Government Area, and the other representing Matan Fada Ward in Ghari Local Government Area.

According to the commission, the by-election has been tentatively scheduled for December 13, 2025.

Mr Lawal-Malumfashi said adequate preparations were underway to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral process.

He called on the political parties, candidates, and community leaders to cooperate with KANSIEC in upholding peace and fairness throughout the exercise.
