Governor Abba Yusuf has received 30 members from the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and National Rescue Movement (NRM) who defected to the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

The defectors, including top-ranking members who contested various elective positions in the 2023 general elections, were welcomed at a special occasion held on Tuesday at Africa House, Government House Kano.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, the leaders of the two opposition parties cited Yusuf’s genuine intention to build a viable society as their reason for joining NNPP.

Shehu Nuhu, one of the defectors, praised the government’s projects in health and education, which convinced him to return to NNPP.

Mr Yusuf commended the defectors’ decision, assuring them that the NNPP administration would continue prioritising socio-economic development across all critical sectors in the state.

He said his administration was committed to implementing the party’s manifesto and Kwankwasiyya ideology.
