Kano government decries poor sanitation in schools

The Kano State government has decried poor sanitary conditions in some schools in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nasiru Garo, expressed the government’s displeasure after the state’s monthly environmental sanitation on Saturday.
Mr Garo urged the management of the affected schools to take cleaning of their environment seriously or face the wrath of the government.
He also expressed concern over the deplorable state of sanitation at the Kano State College of Health Sciences and Technology and the Kano State Polytechnic, saying that the government would enforce compliance with its regulations.
The commissioner said, “We call on the management of these schools to gear up and be up and doing so as to have a clean environment.
“Ministry officials will also revisit the schools to ensure maximum compliance.”
He also urged residents of the state to take advantage of the monthly sanitation to clean their environment, especially the drainage system, to prevent the accumulation of water, a habitat for diseases and pathogens.
“Individuals are expected to clean their surroundings, cut the grasses, and clear the drains to ensure free flow of water.
“We are appealing to the people to make sanitation a continuous habit by keeping their environment clean,” said the commissioner.
According to him, the state government will not hesitate to sanction defaulters of the monthly environmental sanitation.
