The Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has inaugurated mobile courts for the immediate trial of traffic light violations along major streets in Kano metropolis.

The managing director of KAROTA, Faisal Mahmud, who inaugurated the courts, said the move was in line with the directive of the state government to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.

This is contained in a statement issued by the public relations officer of the agency, Abubakar Ibrahim, on Wednesday in Kano.

According to the statement, the government had invested heavily in installing solar-powered traffic lights across the city; hence, there is a need for motorists and motorcyclists to reciprocate by obeying traffic rules.

“Any motorist or tricyclist caught violating traffic light signals would be apprehended by the Agency’s officials and security personnel for on-the-spot trial.

“The mobile courts are not meant to harass or intimidate road users, rather to safeguard lives and property by enforcing discipline on the roads”, he said.

Mr Mahmud reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to implement people-oriented policies of the administration in the transport sector.
