Kano governor lavishes gifts on Buhari Idris for winning Nigeria’s top Quran competition

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State congratulated Buhari Idris, who represented the state and emerged as the male category winner of the 39th National Quranic Recitation Competition.
Governor’s spokesman Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa said on Sunday that Buhari triumphed with an outstanding score of 98.2 per cent, defeating participants from 34 states.
On Saturday, the 2024 prestigious competition was held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi.
Mr Yusuf expressed delight at the feat achieved by Idris and announced plans to host a grand reception for him.
Mr Idris was given a Hajj slot right from the time he emerged as the winner at the state level and national candidate of the competition as a token of appreciation for his remarkable achievement.
The governor said Kano remained the “home of the Holy Quran,” reaffirming the state’s leading role in Islamic scholarship and excellence in Quranic recitation.
He encouraged Mr Idris to continue propagating the teachings of the Quran and called on the Muslim Ummah to intensify prayers for peace, unity and harmony in the country.
Mr Yusuf also emphasised the Holy Quran’s significance in the lives of Muslims, urging them to see it not just as a book but as a divine source of guidance, comfort, and light in times of darkness.
“This victory underscores Kano’s unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting Quranic education and its enduring legacy in Islamic scholarship,” the governor added.
