The Kano government has revoked the accreditation of 14 journalists covering its activities over yet-to-be-disclosed reasons.

In a message to the affected journalists in the Government House press crew’s WhatsApp group on Monday, the revocation takes effect from Tuesday.

According to the message, Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for Governor Abba Yusuf, directed the news organisations the affected journalists work for to replace them.

It said, “Gentlemen of the press. Permit me to thank all of you for a job well done in the last one year and a few months.

“Unfortunately, while I was away in the Republic of Serbia last week, some undisclosed issues happened, and the leadership needed to take a decision at this critical time.”

According to the statement, the affected journalists include Sani Suraj Abubakar, Adamu Dabo, Naziru Yau, Sadiq Sani, Rabiu Sunusi, Umar Sheka, Jabir Dan’abba, Nasiru Danhaki, Abdullahi Sule, Murtala Baba Kusa, and Ibrahim Muazzam.

“This is not by any way end of our relationship. We will continue to work as professional colleagues at both official and personal levels,” the statement. “The above members of staff are expected to report back to their respective organisations for re-assignment, pls.”
