Kano: Governor Yusuf appoints new second-class emirs
Governor Abba Yusuf has approved the appointment of three second-class emirs for Rano, Gaya and Karaye Emirates.
This was announced in a statement issued by Sanusi Tofa, the spokesperson for the governor and made available to journalists in Kano on Tuesday.
The new emirs are to serve under the Kano Emirate, which remains the sole first-class emirate.
Mr Yusuf named Muhammad Karaye as the Emir of Karaye. Until his appointment, Mr Karaye was the district head of Rogo.
Similarly, Muhammad Umar was named Emir of Rano. Until his appointment, Mr Umar was the district head of Bunkure.
Aliyu Gaya was named the Emir of Gaya. He was the emir of the defunct Gaya emirate.
While congratulating the newly appointed emirs, Mr Yusuf urged them to be custodians of the culture, peace and unity of the people in their respective emirates.
Mr Yusuf, on July 16, signed into law three second-class emirates in the state.
Rano covers Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure LGAs. Gaya covers Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu LGAs. Karaye covers Karaye and Rogo LGAs.
The appointments have immediate effect.
