Kano govt commends residents for successful environmental sanitation exercise

Kano State government has expressed satisfaction over the conduct of this month’s environmental sanitation exercise held on Saturday across the state.
The commissioner for environment, Dahir Hashim, gave the commendation while leading an inspection team to monitor the exercise in Kano metropolis.
Mr Hashim was represented by the special adviser to the governor on environmental sanitation, Abdullahi Bichi.
The commissioner said the Jakara-Kwanar Goda community distinguished itself by mobilising the residents in large numbers to clear the drainage and clean their environment.
He described the action as a commendable display of communal responsibility, worthy of emulation by other communities.
The inspection team visited several key areas, including Iyaka Road; State Road to Ahmadu Bello Way; Murtala Muhammad Way to Bata Junction; Igbo Road to France Road; Jakara-Kwanar Goda.
Others were Mandawari Abdullahi Wase Road, and Emir’s Palace Road, to State Road.
Mr Hashim said that compliance with the restriction order was impressive, with only a few defaulters recorded.
He reiterated that the monthly sanitation exercise was critical to public health, flood prevention, and environmental cleanliness.
Also, the vice chairman of Dubai Market, Tudun-Nufawa Ward, Lawan Abdulkadir Musa, said his community used the period to mobilise residents to tidy their surroundings.
“We considered it proper to take advantage of the movement restriction to improve our environment for the benefit of both the community and the state at large,” he said.
The inspection team comprised members of sanitation committees, security agencies, mobile sanitation court officials, journalists, and other stakeholders.
The government, however, called on the communities to emulate Jakara-Kwanar Goda in sustaining cleaner and healthier environments across Kano.
