Kano govt inaugurates distribution of 5.5 million trees

Governor Abba Yusuf has inaugurated the distribution of 5.5 million tree seedlings across Kano to combat desert encroachment and promote environmental sustainability.
This was disclosed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Monday.
Mr Yusuf said that all 44 local government areas would receive their allocation of trees for further distribution to schools, communities, and other relevant institutions.
He also directed local government chairpersons to set up tree-planting committees and instructed that trees be planted in schools, religious centres, and along streets to promote a cleaner environment.
He highlighted the state’s broader environmental restoration efforts to include the reclamation of over 250,000 hectares of land through the agro-climatic resilience in semi-arid landscapes project.
