The Kano government has distributed N50,000 grants to 5,800 women across the 44 council areas under its Monthly Women’s Empowerment and Poverty Relief Programme. Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf disclosed this on Monday in Kano, while inaugurating the distribution of the grants to the beneficiaries.

The programme, titled ‘Empowering Women, Transforming Lives, Building Stronger Communities and Promoting Inclusive Growth and Development’, is part of the administration’s Renewed Hope and Kano First Initiatives.

Mr Kabir-Yusuf said the empowerment programme was introduced after his administration began and will continue until December. He urged the beneficiaries to support the All Progressives Congress, saying their votes helped bring the current administration to power.

“With your votes, we came into power, and now you are here receiving empowerment,” he said.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously by investing it in viable businesses that would enable them to support their families.

He also urged the women to “do the needful” by voting wisely in the 2027 general elections.

Deputy Governor Murtala Sule-Garo said about 97 per cent of the administration’s campaign promises had been fulfilled, particularly in the areas of health, education and road infrastructure, among others.

Mr Sule-Garo commended the governor for the empowerment initiative, describing it as a gesture that would improve the livelihood of women across the state. He also urged the beneficiaries to come out en masse and early on the election dates to cast their votes for APC candidates at all levels.

The Emir of Gaya, Aliyu Ibrahim-Abdulkadir, commended the governor for the initiative, saying that traditional rulers were happy with the empowerment programme. He urged the beneficiaries to invest the money wisely and use it to improve their families’ economic well-being.

The emir also commended the governor for interventions in health and education, including the compensation and payment for land acquired for the development of the newly approved Federal Polytechnic, Gaya.
