The Kano government says it is intensifying efforts to modernise motor parks to ensure safer and more efficient transportation services.

The transport commissioner, Haruna Dederi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano on Monday.

Mr Dederi said the initiative was aimed at reforming and strengthening the sector, boosting economic growth and public safety.

He explained that already, a task force had been set up to halt the operations of illegal motor parks and enforce compliance with extant regulations, reducing congestion and improving orderliness.

According to him, the ministry is also tackling overloading of goods and passengers, a major contributor to recurring fatal road crashes.

Mr Dederi, however, appealed to the public to support the government’s efforts by obeying traffic regulations.
