Kano Hisbah storms gay marriage venue, arrests 19 attendees

The Kano State Hisbah Board (an agency enforcing Islamic religious morals) has arrested 19 youths for attending a same-sex marriage ceremony.
Its spokesman, Lawan Ibrahim, stated on Tuesday in Kano that the youths were gathered to witness the wedding of two suspected homosexuals, Abba and Mujahid.
He said the youths were arrested after the board got a hint about the same-sex marriage.
According to him, personnel arrived at the wedding venue before the commencement.
“Among those arrested were 15 females and four males,’’ Mr Ibrahim stated.
He added, “Abba and Mujahid escaped immediately after Hisbah personnel arrived at the wedding venue, but the organiser, Salma Usman, 21, is in our custody.”
Mr Ibrahim said the arrested youths would be handed over to the police.
According to him, some of the ladies claimed to be invited from other states.
“We shall intensify efforts to ensure that Abba and Mujahid are arrested,’’ he added.
Mr Ibrahim stressed that the board was determined to eradicate all vices in the state.
