Kano inaugurates Ramadan feeding committee

Kano State Government has inaugurated a committee for the 2024 Ramadan Feeding Programme across the state.
Inaugurating the committee on Wednesday in Kano, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, said that the programme was aimed at assisting residents irrespective of political affiliations.
He urged the committee to strategise the distribution of food across designated areas in the state, highlighting the importance of completing their task within five days.
The Ramadan period, a worldwide 29 or 30 days of fasting among Muslims, would come up in the next 18 days.
The deputy governor also called for the review of previous reports on the programme to address identified loopholes.
Mr Abdussalam said that the committee’s terms of reference include identifying key distribution spots within the eight metropolitan local governments and 36 local government areas of the state.
He said, “The committee is to also recommend breakfast menus for the targeted Muslim ummah during Ramadan, and identify individuals or groups deserving of government goodwill.’’
He expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their support to the administration of Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf.
Responding on behalf of the committee members, Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ahmad Auwal, thanked the state government for entrusting them with the task.
He gave the assurance that the committee would work diligently to fulfill its mandate.
Mr Auwal also called on philanthropists in the state to support the programme to succeed and for people to enjoy its benefits during the Holy month.
Other members of the committee include commissioners for women affairs, special duties, education and information.
